I M P O R T A N T
The way you speak tells people a lot about you. Studies
have shown that people can tell -- or think they can tell -
- where you are from, your level of education, degree of
success, confidence, sophistication, wealth, and even the
amount of kindness and intelligence you possess, based
on your voice.
Many people struggle well into their careers with speech
differences that affect how they are perceived in the
workplace, as well as in their personal lives.
Squeaky voices, regional dialects, lisps, glottal letter
formation, stammers, space-fillers, and other speech
characteristics can transmit impressions about speakers
that distract from the content of their verbal
communications. While these impressions are often
based in stereotypes and false assumptions, that does
not offset their negative impact.
